Ifedami: What does your skin mean to you?
BBD: My skin is a very crucial part of my body and I love my skin color. After failing a couple of times, I have come to realize that it takes conscious effort and dedication to be able to understand one’s skin and its behavior in different seasons.
So right now, I can say that I love my skin because I feed it with the right products (thumbs up to my skincare plug and yes!! You need to see me to understand what I’m talking about because my skin is glowing and it means everything to me.
Ifedami: As a makeup artist what are some challenges you face with clients’ skin concerns?
BBD: When I started my makeup career I faced a lot of challenges with clients’ skin concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and other skin concerns. Over time, I began to understand that there are different skin types with different textures and most first-time clients are very meticulous about the type of makeup you apply on their skin and of course your hygiene (you don’t want to work on a client with dirty brushes ).
As much as I’d love to satisfy a client and give them what they want, I also try to explain and enlighten them on what type of products/ makeup is suitable for their skin and I’d love to add that God has always been a blessing to me with sweet clients so they trust me with their skin. We keep learning every day, I am still learning and open to ideas and techniques on how to serve my clients with skin concerns better.
Ifedami: Do you think makeup and skincare routine can do the magic for a
glowing skin?
BBD: Drink a lot of water, eat healthy, and mind your business. Do not
rely solely on makeup, remember, makeup artists are not magicians they can only do their best by covering and patching up, they can’t change your face completely or clear off what you have covered under the foundations and powders. Take skin-friendly foods and diets that are best for supporting healthy skin like proteins, fruits, vegetables, fibers, and healthy oils among others. All the celebs you see with glowing skin do not only rely on the above, they also go for facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, and the like just to keep their skin in good condition. Get a professional and do what’s
right for your skin.
Ifedami: Tell us more about your brand
BBD: BBD is a brand that started like a drop of water turning into a mighty ocean.
BeautyByDesewa evolved out of my urge and thirst to know how to transform people’s looks beautifully because I fell completely in love with the art.
The brand has been through thick and thin and has encountered a lot of circumstances that would have made the brand cease to exist; but with my unceasing efforts, dedication, and determination to keep pushing till the brand reaches the pinnacle, kept the brand till now.
Being a makeup artist comes with a lot of struggles and juggling makeup artistry with Industrial chemistry during my university days wasn’t an easy task. However, one of the perks of being a makeup artist is the ability to say NO to some offers.
The following are some of the struggles the brand has faced:
- Clients asking for discounts during or after the glam session
- Having to wash multiple sets of brushes at once and prepare for the next client
- Restocking makeup products is not for the weak
- Clients who are extremely enthusiastic about makeup unnecessarily cause distractions with looks, they know the price rate is more than what they’re willing to pay
- Having to carry along all the necessary makeup products and requirements for home service is so tiring! The list is long
6 years into the game I can say that Our brand offers one of the best makeup services in the beauty industry.
Ifedami: Your skin is always popping, how do you manage breakouts and other skin reactions?
BBD: Well, there’s is no magic to getting flawless skin and staying beautiful.
For me, consistency is key! I found what was right for me and stuck to it. I don’t get skin reactions but | break out a lot especially when it’s that time of the month.
Ifedami: Which skincare mistakes do you think people make and what advice can you give?
BBD: Wearing makeup for too long! Some people go as far as going to bed with their makeup and wake up with it the following morning, please stop it dearssssssssss. Allow your skin to breathe and stop clogging your pores.
You can’t claim to have a proper skincare routine and skip a night just because you probably had a long day and you’re too tired to go through the process. It’s your skin, Learn to pamper and take very good care of it. A lot of people mistake using the products Miss A and Miss B used on themselves just because those products seem to be working effectively, and it’s triple action!
My dear, the first thing you should do is to take your time to understand skin, read and know about your skin type, and the type of products that will help give you the glowing skin you desire.
Seek the help of a certified dermatologist if need be, the fact that such products worked miracles on Miss A and B is not enough reason for you to try them on your skin.
Know what works for you and know peace Boo!!
Invest in your skin; it is going to represent you for a long time!
